Immigration to UK under HSMP

The Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP) has been very successful since it was introduced on 28 January 2002. From 8th November 2006 New HSMP criteria has been replaced and implemented.

New points criteria for initial HSMP applications

  • There will be changes to the attributes for which points are awarded.
    Home office is deleting the work experience, significant achievements, skilled partner and GP Priority Provision categories. The new attributes will be academic qualifications, previous earnings, age and bonus points for previous work/study in the UK. There is no Under 28 or Above 28 years criteria.
    The provision which allows holders of MBA degrees from designated institutions will continue.
    In addition, there will be a new mandatory English language requirement (IELTS level 6 or equivalent) for all applicants. 
  • The changes will be made by announcing the deletion of the existing HSMP rules on 7 November 2006, effective from 8 November 2006.
This change in HSMP criteria shall be  enabled  more young  people to qualify who has above average remuneration. The latest changes of 7th November 2006 will mean a huge increase in the number of people who can now qualify.
